Fathom Nickel has released results from its Q1 drill program at the Albert Lake Project in Saskatchewan, Canada, revealing promising nickel intersections that could significantly impact the company's exploration strategy. The program involved drilling six holes totaling 1,386 meters, with drillhole AL24077 intersecting 0.42% nickel over 2.01 meters. This mineralization occurs in orthopyroxenite, the same host rock assemblage identified at the nearby Rottenstone deposit, which is renowned for its exceptionally high-grade nickel, copper, and platinum group elements.
The proximity of this mineralization to the historic Rottenstone deposit, located approximately 1.2 kilometers to the northeast, underscores the potential significance of this discovery. Fathom Nickel CEO Ian Fraser emphasized the importance of this finding, noting that the geological similarities suggest potential for similar high-grade mineralization. The 10% nickel tenor defined in intervals comprising less than 3% sulphide in drillhole AL24077 suggests the possibility of net-textured to massive sulphide mineralization occurring along strike and potentially at depth within the same ultramafic unit.
If these indications prove accurate, they could lead to the development of a mineral deposit with metal grades comparable to the historic Rottenstone deposit, representing a significant advancement in Fathom Nickel's exploration efforts. The company's strategic positioning near known high-grade mineralization provides valuable geological context for interpreting these results and planning future exploration programs. The identification of orthopyroxenite as the host rock is particularly significant given its association with high-grade nickel-copper-PGE mineralization in the region.
Concurrently, Fathom Nickel provided an update on drilling activities at its flagship Gochager Lake Project, where drilling has been completed and assay results are expected by the end of May. These forthcoming results will provide additional insights into the project's mineral potential and help guide the company's exploration strategy moving forward. The combination of promising results from Albert Lake and anticipated data from Gochager Lake positions Fathom Nickel with multiple opportunities for discovery and resource expansion in the coming months.
